Upon arrival in the United States, all travelers are subject to inspection by the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This federal organization is responsible for the safety and security of domestic borders through the enforcement of immigration, customs, and agriculture laws. The VIH Program encourages all travelers to become familiar with the CBP in order to expedite the re-entry process.

Tips for going through customs:

Consider pre-registering for Global Entry, a CBP program that allows expedited clearance. Have your travel documents organized including a valid passport and a completed CBP Declaration Form.

Turn off your cell phone and all other electronic devices prior to inspection.

Become familiar with prohibited and restricted items such as food and plat products prior to traveling.

If you have questions or need assistance at any time during the process, as a CBP officer, CBP Passenger Service Manager or airline representative.
