The Heinz Endowments gives grant funding in five Heinz Programming Areas (HPAs):  Arts & Culture, Economic Opportunity, Education, Environment, and Children, Youth, & Families. Awardees in the VIH Program select one of the five HPAs. The VIH awardees use the HPAs to make goals for their International Experiences as well as their experiences throughout the VIH Program.



       -Channel creativity 

      -Develop alternative cultural activities that lead to cultural exchanges

      -Utilize existing cultural resources.

-Stimulate economic activity which has positive ecological, educational, and cultural impacts in communities

-Seek out an understanding of the effects of economic opportunity on diverse populations

-Cultivate effective leadership skills 






-Promote sustainable transformation of systems and/or habits

 -Support efforts to reduce the damage currently being done by unsustainable practices, especially where people and nature are directly affected.

-Seek to reduce disparities, protect vulnerable populations and environments, and promote equitable outcomes





-Inspire children to be more capable, enthused learners

-Assist families in becoming stronger, better nurturers by directing them to material and cultural resources

-Support holistic development of children and youth
