Mental Health Abroad

Traveling abroad can be a stressful experience for anyone.  With culture shock and unexpected changes in plans, it is sometimes difficult to know what to expect.  For individuals with mental health conditions, this stress can be exacerbated. It is important for individuals with any mental health or chronic conditions to work with their University, Campus Coordinator, health care providers, and Study Abroad Program to best prepare and manage their health before and during their international experience

Below are some tips for preparing to study abroad:

  • Consider notifying your Program Provider prior to departure
  • Be sure to have and discuss a plan with your health care providers to continue treatment while abroad
  • Maintain realistic expectations for your time abroad
