VIH Advising Philosophy
The VIH program guides and supports students throughout their journey in the program and beyond. We provide intensive advising opportunities at various stages of the program to assist students with program selection, budgeting, CEE planning, creating tangible goals and overall program adjustment. We focus on the holistic advising approach when it comes to working with our students in obtaining a meaningful and joyous experience.

What is Holistic Advising?
The intentional planning and integration of critical student academic and personal support (Achieving the Dream, 2022).

Advising Approaches:
Proactive - Intrusive Advising
Utilize strategies that show interest and involvement in students and approach the student before a situation occurs (Varney, 2012).
Strengths-Based Advising
Valuing students lived experiences, skills, and talents and applying them to challenges and situations (Wagner, 2020).
Developmental Advising
Focus on the overall development of students and identifying goals and creating plans to achieve those goals.
