International Experience Summary:

Tara Matthews graduated with honors from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.A. in Economics and Political Science and a Certificate in Global Studies. In 2010 Tara was a recipient of the VIH Program which allowed her to study abroad in Karagwe, Tanzania, with a focus on the economic opportunities of female entrepreneurs in rural Tanzania. Following her international experience, Tara along with five other cohort members created the community engagement experience (CEE) “Bridges to Africa”. Tara served as the intern for the VIH program until her graduation in 2012. While interning, she created several resources for cohort members including a comprehensive review of the most successful CEEs as well as a series of videos about planning and implementing CEEs. Currently, she works with Diversity Abroad, an organization dedicated to helping underrepresented students find greater opportunities in international education.
